Today, I discuss the latest trend in credit markets, that is, Pre-paid credit cards. And, I feel this latest avatar of 'plastic' is here to stay and flourish. These cards are already in vogue in the US, South Korea, Indonesia, Russia and Poland and are soon to be introduced in Australia and New Zealand. These disposable or re-loadable cards offer the same options as traditional credit cards but, give debt-wary consumers far more control over their spending. It provides a 'pay before' option, unlike the credit card's 'pay later' or debit card's 'pay now' methods. Like its other counterparts, however, it can be efficiently used for electronic payments. So, lets ask the banking industry to introduce these cards for the whole world rather than just a few select countries.
